My Journey in Ceramics

For John Richter, working with clay is a dynamic collaboration with the elements, a philosophy discovered under the guidance of Juan Granados at Texas Tech University. Though initially pursuing a non-art curriculum, the profound impact of this early mentorship left an indelible mark on my creative trajectory. Following a period of incubation, John revitalized my practice by joining the vibrant community at Austin's East Side Pot Shop. Currently, my work focuses on the challenging and rewarding disciplines of high-fire wood and soda atmospheric firings. Embracing the natural alchemy of the kiln, I balance intentional form with the markings of flame and vapor, resulting in evocative pieces that celebrate raw, organic aesthetics.
